From Noel Garland: This
information just in. Am including all who get this message in the hope
that you don’t get the same message from several sources. Keep handy if
you are able to come and to pass on to others you know who may not be on
my list, or who don’t have computer access. Noel PS:
Am hoping also that something can be arranged to have a date compatible
meeting with the graduates of Stephen J Hay, class of 1950 can be held
in addition to the dates of the 1954 NDHS reunion, but not conflicting.
Hope all that is possible can attend one or more of these planning
meetings. Do contact Bill about your planned attendance.

Allen, Bill |
After reading Ray Bowen’s biography, preparing mine seems ridiculous. But, what the hey, Miss Gerlack might be interested, maybe even amazed. After graduation from NDHS, I received some scholastic scholarships and went to Texas A&M (with Ray) for 2 1/2 years. I transferred to SMU, and with the help of further scholarships and their co-op program earned my BSME in 1959. That same year, I married the beautiful Glenda Furgeson, of Trenton, Texas, unquestionably the most fortunate thing that’s happened to me. I went to work for Ingersoll-Rand Company, selling their heavy industrial equipment and machinery in Midland, Texas for three years. After some wonderful training, I realized I was not suited for sales, and moved to Atlantic Richfield Company (then Atlantic Refining Company) for the next 25 years. My primary activities for ARCO were in project engineering and management, involving oilfield production facilities in California and Alaska. I got to live in places like Odessa, Texas; Franklin, Louisiana; Dallas; Pasadena, California; San Francisco; and Anchorage, Alaska. I even got to spend time in England and Korea. My biggest discovery was that the most enjoyable jobs involved spending lots of money! With downsizing in 1987, I found myself living in the briar patch of Seattle, Washington, with a few years of productivity left in me. So, I went to work, again in project management, for a local government agency, Seattle Metro. For eight years I managed a capital programs division for them, designing and building transit and wastewater treatment facilities. At that magical age of 59 1/2, I retired. I’ve enjoyed every minute of the last 5 years of retirement and don’t know how I found time for work! What have I accomplished? My best accomplishments are three stunning, intelligent, and successful daughters. One is a studio operations manager for NBBJ, a national architectural firm. Number 2 is a section chief for the Corps of Engineers in Germany. And Number 3 is a buyer for the kitchen section of Amazon.com. I founded the Alaska Chapter of the Project Management Institute and the Puget Sound Chapter of the Miata Club of America (its first chapter). I earned a professional engineering license in Texas and membership in Sigma Tau, Blue Key, Kappa Sigma, ASME, API, PMI, and the West Texas Sports Car Club. (If the letters are meaningless to you, that’s what they are.). One of my projects (Seawater Treating Plant in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska) earned an ASCE award in 1985. My current pleasures are my supercharged Miata, cinema, traveling (Russia, France, Italy, Germany, Turkey), reading detective novels, doing computer stuff, and eating my wife’s BBQ. We love to travel and enjoy visitors here in the Northwest. Please feel welcome to stop by! Bill Allen. Go see Bill's photos |

Altermann, John A III |
143 Melrose Drive 936-597-8686 |
1/20/03 - After NDHS, John attended Texas A&M, receiving his ME in 1958. John worked at NASA from 1 June 1958 to 31 May 1959; Hughes Tool Co. 1 June 1959 to 31 May 1966; and finally at Reading & Bates (now R&B Falcon) from 1 June 1966 to the present. John has decided and made definite plans to bring his career to a close on 31 December 2000 after 34 yrs. and 7 months with R&B Falcon. After which he will enjoy his hobbies; golf; flying, woodworking and his entire family. And not necessarily in that order either. We all remember John and his sister Katherine, she beautiful and he handsome. Some of the girls whose hearts went pitty-patty when John was near were Susan Mara, Judy Chapman, Patsy Murphy and Carol Miles, just to mention a few. John claims that none of them lost any sleep over losing out to the one who took his heart and breath away. A girl in the Class of '55, Sarah "Suzy" Elizabeth Kennedy. Suzy and John became high school sweethearts and that began on 7 Nov. 1952 when both were 15 years old. John reflected a bit about how his Mom, Katherine M. Spillman and Dad, John A. Altermann Jr. met in Miss Elizabeth Dice's math class the first day of school in Sept 1927. Just as soon as Suzy took her high school diploma in hand she and John eloped to Durant Ok.. At the early morning hour of 2:30 on 12 June 1955 they tied their knot which lasted for many beautiful years. How ironic that on the 44th anniversary of that union, 12 June 1999 Suzy was destined to leave John and her beloved family. A bitter sweet departure as they were celebrating their many years together on holiday in Vancouver, BC., Canada when Suzy suffered heart failure. However, during those blessed 44 years she and John parented 5 wonderful children, who in turn had presented to them 8 grandchildren and 1 great grand daughter. As fate would have it, John's coworker and friend, John Branum had also passed away in July of '97 leaving his wife Emily Vera Abrams Branum a widow after 41 years of marriage. Emily and John B. had 4 children, who in turn presented them with 3 grand children. After a brief courtship John A. and Emily decided that it would be great and a happy event to couple their families into one. On 8 January 2000 John and Emily joined hands as husband and wife. They are looking forward to sharing the role of grandparents and making each other happy for the rest of their time. John also wanted all to know that he is the proud owner of 1929, '54 and '55 Yearbooks and wouldn't mind copying a picture or two for ones who aren't so lucky to have access to these copies. |

| Dobson, Dudly Dale (Dale) | mariedobson@comcast.net. |
06/23/06 (deceased) - From Noel Garland - I talked to Mrs. Marie Dobson this noon. Yes, Bill Driscoll is correct, and my memory hasn't gone entirely south. Dale Dobson did graduate from North Dallas High, in 1954. She said he specialized in being late, had 40 times in dentition during his years at ND. Lived with his aunt and uncle near the Love Field area, and had fond memories of his time at ND. Possible further attendance at Arlington State College, North Texas State, East Texas State, and possibly a return to Arlington after it became a four year institution after the service on the GI Bill. He served at Fort Bliss during basic training, and then a nuclear tech at an underground missile silo in New Jersey before returning to Texas. First marriage was to a Betty Sloan, a RN from Mississippi, acquiring four children which forced him to withdraw from the PhD program at North Texas for their support. Married a second time to Mrs. Marie Dobson, a graduate of Garland High, whom he had met 25 years earlier while she was working at a drug store, at 13 years old. He had been told she was 17, a little white lie, but the druggist ratted on her, and he made tracks, though they may have crossed paths later when she was going to North Texas at the same time as he. It is just hard to figure how no one caught his name in one of the searches for 1954 classmates being one of the missing. She said they would have loved to come to the reunion. His given name was Dudley Dale Dobson, but always was known as Dale. Was in ROTC, but always was a quiet person, though his business associates always knew him for his humor. |

Mike is a native of Dallas, Texas. He attended Wheaton College in Illinois, where he was a speech major and a very active athlete. After serving in the Army at Ft. Benning, Georgia, Mike attended seminary. His first church was in Newburyport, Massachusetts where he was ordained. While there, he was heavily involved in youth work and with under-privileged children. Mike then became a cadet chaplain at the U.S. Military Academy where he served from 1967-1973. 12/7/2006 - I graduated from UT/Austin in 58, majoring in TV-Radio Broadcasting. After a brief stint on the NBC Page Staff in Los Angeles (fancy name for "gopher" that gets you inside the network) I went to work on the production staff of WFAA-TV/Dallas and worked up from cameraman to producer/director. In 1962 I got an offer I couldn't refuse: J. Walter Thompson in New York City (at the time, the largest advertising agency in the world) hired me as a TV station liaison and commercial producer. I moved to ABC News/NYC as a TV producer and radio correspondent. A high point of my career was working as Producer of ABC's coverage of Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing. I moved into broadcast management as Program Director of KPIX(TV)/CBS/San Francisco, and General Manager of PBS stations in Anchorage, Alaska; Austin; and San Antonio. I won an Emmy for a show I created featuring high school kids asking Walter Cronkite questions about Nixon's trip to China. For nearly twenty years my wife, Micki, and I ran our own business television company - Chanticleer Communications - in New York and Texas, providing satellite delivered TV services to major corporations. Our largest single project was the American TV coverage of the merger of Daimler-Benz and Chrysler. When Princess Diana made her first visit to NYC, our company was chosen to be the sole producer of TV coverage of the event; the tape was shown on newscasts throughout the world. In 2000 we retired to Washington State, where my wife was raised, and love our life in the Pacific Northwest. We have two grown daughters, three granddogs and one grandcat. |

Lamoreaux, John |
2006 - From Noel Garland - To all - Just received a phone call from Raleigh, North Carolina, from Susan Lamoreaux, daughter of John Lamoreaux. Susan, her sister, and John were in Williamsburg last week, for an outing. Saturday night late, John got up to go get something, and was found the next morning at a table, having died from apparently a major stroke. He is being cremated, and the ashes are being Fed-Exed back to Raleigh for a service there. Susan is preparing an obituary and wishes it published in the Dallas Morning News. I am to receive the information shortly, and will obtain prices from the News and how to go about having it published. While there are no known relatives in the Dallas area, or if any other former kin are still living, she does want to contact Maurice Ballas, possibly Robert Hasty, and the wife of the late James Cook, Barbara Maples Cook. We cant find Barbara in the 2000 North Dallas Alumni Directory, so if anyone can help here, let me know. I believe John said that Maurice has contact with Hasty. John was a graduate of Steven J Hay in 1950, North Dallas in 1954, and a member of the class of 1958 at Texas A&M College, though he didn't finish until 1959 or 1960. Served 10 years in the US Army in the Transportation Corp, serving in the US and in Vietnam, among other places. He was so looking forward to the 50th anniversary of graduating from North Dallas, and from Steven J Hay, as well as from A&M. | |||||||||||||||||

07/31/05 - Husband: Al. "I met Al Oglesby at North Texas State University. Denton, in 1956. He was a member of the NTSU Basketball team. We married in 1958 and he was drafted after receiving his Masters Degree. We moved to Carmel, California, where he was in the service at Ft. Ord and I was in a secretarial position for Couroc of Monterey for two years. We would have loved to made our permanent residence in Carmel. However, he received his first teaching and coaching position in Odessa, Texas. We moved to Odessa where he was a very successful teacher, administrator, and basketball coach having coached at Ector High School and Permian High School. His Ector Eagles were State Champions one year he was the runner-up Coach of the Year in the state of Texas. He also coached the North/South All Star Basketball team of 1978 in Austin. Texas. We lived in Odessa 31 years before moving to the tall tree country of Granbury. I was a secretary for Robert E.. McKee General Contractors, Dallas, one year after I attended NTSU (1956). I had a wonderful learning experience with McKee when I went to San Francisco, Calif. for three months to assist with the purchasing contracts for the building of Kaiser Center, Oakland. At the time it would be the tallest building west of the Mississippi. Upon return and having married Al Oglesby I commuted from Denton to Dallas to Texas Instruments working as an Executive Secretary. My husband was drafted after getting his Masters at NTSU and we were sent to Ft. Ord, California, We lived at beautiful Carmel for two years. Upon completion of his Army service we moved to Odessa, Texas. In the following 30 years I was an employee of several wonderful companies: El Paso Products Co. and Odessa Natural Corp.. In Midland I was employed by Texaco, Inc. eventually retiring from ARCO Oil and Gas Corp. We have two children and in October 2004 we became grandparents for the first time - twins - a boy and a girl! Today I live in Pecan Plantation Country Club, Granbury, and am a member of three golf clubs - Pecan Plantation LGA, Nutcracker LGA, and the women’s Suburban LGA. We have a very active Women’s Club at Pecan and a Newcomer’s Club in Granbury. Pecan is a wonderful place to live. My closest friends during my high school years were Nina Farley, Patsy Patterson, Barbara Heath, Shirley Jones and Paula Mallow - to name a few. Sorry we missed the 50th. |

Parks, Leland Kelly |
7/2000 -The short 5'4" sandy-headed kid with the burr haircut grew up after leaving ND to become a tall 6' sandy-headed kid with a burr haircut. Kelly went to work for American Airlines shortly after graduating from ND. There he stayed working very hard and saving wisely for 40 years. American and Kelley were mutually good to one another and this allowed Kelly to comfortably retire while still in the prime of his years. Asked what his favorite pastime was, he didn't miss a beat. "Golf is what I really enjoy, but I also enjoy visiting our ND Web site". Kelly, the lucky rascal, has been able to fly all over the world. This, along with his playing ability, ahs allowed him to participate in golf tournaments in Australia, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand, England, plus many states in the U.S. He challenges any to play a friendly game and wishes more of our class mates would join our site and post their E-Mail addresses. |

Rowley, Howard |
05/05/01 - "Twenty-six years
in the USAF and lots of travel. Moved all over the
globe and in the good old US of A. Besides Texas, there
was Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Opheim, Montana; Hastings, Nebraska;
Texarkana, Texas and Arkansas; Syracuse, New York; Colorado Springs,
Colorado and finally Little Rock, Arkansas. Now across the
pond there was Guam, Alaska, Iceland, Panama, Thailand and Vietnam. Just
some of the garden spots of the world that I have had the honor to live. Retiring from the
USAF and now have retired from an engineering firm where I was a Project
Manager. This
last career was for installation of 911 projects in select counties in
Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Florida, Oklahoma and Arkansas. These were just the
ones that I worked on.
Married to the same gal for these past 43 years and we have 5
grandchildren - 4 boys, 1 girl. We have two
daughters, one who lives in Cape Cod, MA.. She is a
Pediatrics RN and her husband is an AF Commander (L/Col) at an Space
Surveillance Radar Site.
The youngest daughter lives here in Little Rock with her three
children. She
is a national figure skating judge and just recently returned to the US
from Brussels, Belgium where she was the US judge. My days are
spent playing golf (7 handicap), 4 to 5 days a week. That is about it for
me. Sorry
for rambling so.
I was going to attend the 10th reunion of NDHS but I was on my way
to Vietnam which had a little higher priority." |

Sheffield, Vinton |
Deceased |
Vinton worked for Kraft Foods and the company moved him to California in 1972 where he was a Project Engineering Manager. He has lived in the Whittier CA area for the past 13 years. Vinton retired from Kraft in 1998 and is living the life of ease. Vinton gets back to Texas ever so often as he still has all of his children living in the Dallas area, as well as his Mom and a brother in San Antonio. Vinton has been in California since '72, so he is almost a native now. His family wants him to move back, but he really likes California and is resisting that move. When he was at ND, Vinton had the coolest cars. The first one he had was a '52 green and white Olds and then a '53 red hardtop. Remembering Vinton Sheffield - by Noel Garland Vinton and I shared more than those days riding the chartered bus to Alex Spence in 1947, and the short time I spent at North Dallas with him one semester, Fall of 1951. Today he would have been 69, but I beat him by one year. The big 70, a year I always thought was ancient, an age older people reached I knew way back then. I picture Vincent going to some restaurant out there in Southern California, partaking of a nice meal all by himself, and have a nice glass of what was his favorite wine. One thing I know about the astrological sign of a Virgo, it isn't true, all those attributes, from personal knowledge, :0). I wish it were. In the two visits he made to my house when he would come to Dallas since 2000, we would talk about those days we lived out in the western part of North Dallas. He enjoyed the rare visits he was able to make at the All Class North Dallas breakfast's at Dunston's also. What is your favorite memory of Vinton? Bon appetit Vinton, Noel |

Stein, Harold |
P.O. Box 23 |
7/20/03 - I was only a member of the class of '54 at North Dallas High during our Freshman and part of our Sophomore years. However, some of my fondest memories of that time in my life are associated with the Orange and White. I don't think our football team ever won a game, but we all went to DalHigh Stadium to cheer anyway. Those that could went on the road trips. All the guys were in the ROTC, I even went to Camp Dallas (Mineral Wells) that first year. Caught hell from the 'upper class' too. During school I sold milk in the lunch room, don't remember the price. Wiped tables after the lunch period. A lot of people would leave their water glass upside down full of water. What a mess. Remember the shout "NICKEL" when ever someone broke a glass in the lunch room???? I was suppose to find the person and collect the nickel! Don't remember if I ever collected any! Somehow I got promoted to student cashier and collected lunch money at the register, someone else took up the milk job. My home room was Mr. Glass in the chemistry room. Looking over the list of graduates from our class I remember some, sad to say some I remember are listed as deceased. Please keep me in mind and who knows October 2004 may find me back in Dallas. |
