He made the All-Army Boxing Team and was selected by Department of the Army Sports Office to become a member of the Army World Class Athlete Boxing Program, designed to allow soldiers to pursue the '96 Olympics and box full time as their "special duty" job. James' goal was to make it to the Olympic trials, do well, and come home and begin a professional boxing career. He won the 1993 International Invitational at Camp Zama, Japan. He was also a Silver Medalist at the Dallas, Hawaii, & N. Carolina Golden Gloves. His last year in the Army, in 1995, James "hung up his gloves" while after a '94 injury (broken right thumb) set him back and not making it to the trials in '95 when he returned from injury. Upon honorable discharge from military in 1996, James entered the insurance industry and has worked for various insurance agencies for 10 years. He earned his insurance license in 1999 and in 2002 opened a small insurance agency, JAB Products and Services, which offers homeowner, automobile, and commercial insurance in Texas, and offers a legal services membership that is available nationwide. He is married and has three children. James' hobbies are spending time with family & friends, cooking out at the lake, coaching boxing, playing tennis & pool. His influences at NDHS came from Mr. Manuel Gonzalez, Mr. Sutherland, Coach Walker, LTC Bishop, 1SG Kaloi, and 1SG Walters. "Come visit with high school classmates 4 times a year at our quarterly get together."
