8/30/04 - Reunion News - Forwarded by Howard Paige.

From Howard - 7/26/2005

One of our own NDHS Grads, Robert Surles, is doing something very notable. He is a chef at a private school in New York City focusing on healthy diets for kids. He has also written a book, see below. I ordered copies for our kids/grandkids and can't wait for them to arrive. I may have to order one for us too since I need to reduce my cholesterol. I thought you would be interested. It must be great to do something you really enjoy, be creative, and make a difference in so many lives. Robert's email is: RWSurlesNY@aol.com

Some review type info:

From: Cathey (Taylor) Hundley clevercat@sbcglobal.net. I'm writing everyone for whom I have email addresses to let them know that plans have been made for our 45th class reunion next year.  Mark your calendars, and feel free to contact other classmates not on this list to let them know -- we want to spread the word and the enthusiasm!

The arrangements committee got together in mid- August and decided that the ideal site for our reunion would be the Richardson Destinations Hotel (formerly the Omni, I believe) on Central Expressway.  The hotel is centrally located, is being completely renovated (scheduled for completion in Feb.) and is large enough to accommodate our group, but not SO huge that we would lose that feeling of "togetherness" that we enjoyed at our 40th at the Melrose (I know that last statement will bring out the "gag reflex" in many of you, but I'm taking my chances!)

The weekend of August 20th has been reserved, and most if not all of our events will take place at the hotel.  Details will follow, but I think the plan is to go with a Friday night "gathering" for cocktails, the Saturday reunion, and a Sunday brunch, much as we did for the 40th.  The hotel is near Northpark, so if you want to spend an afternoon shopping or lunching with old friends, you'll be free to do so.  Kay has "connections" at the hotel, so we're hopeful that we'll get a price break on rooms and activities.

We're doing everything we can to make this reunion memorable, affordable, and fun, AND WE WANT YOU THERE!  Please make plans to join us.  !f you'd like to help with any aspect of our 45th and haven't already volunteered, we'd love to have you!  Contact Kay at 214-341-9642 or email me at clevercat@sbcglobal.net.

(Gilworth) Kortz, Suzanne

 lkortz@concentric.net

5/17/03 - COLLEGE INFO: Moved to New Orleans just prior to my senior year,  so I graduated from Warren Easton in New Orleans, LA. However I feel much more connected to ND than Easton. FAMILY INFO: I have 4 children, and 5 grandchildren.  My daughter is a nurse in Pembroke Pines Fl where she and her husband (and  daughter) live. My oldest son owns a carpet, flooring business in the New Orleans area. He has one son, my only grandson. My third son was an acrogymnastic champion, traveling to Belgium, Hungry, and Bulgaria for competitions. He now coaches part time in addition to his regular job. My youngest son has three daughters and works for a food dist in New Orleans. JOB INFO: Worked for a mechanical contractor as a purchasing agent. They went "out of business" due to the 1984 World's Fair. Since then I have been at Sysco and work in the profit management department. AFTER RETIREMENT: When I retire, I want to travel and pursue research on my "family tree" All of my family is scattered all over the USA so it would be a good excuse to visit a lot of new and interesting places. HOBBIES: Music, reading, working on the "Family Tree", computer, vegetable gardening. NDHS INFLUENCE: Teachers that greatly influenced my life-Virginia Bronenkant for  making history real and instilling a love of history that continues to this day; Mr Sponseller for having me in the band and orchestra (my favorite subjects); Nell Lawler for her insistence on accuracy which has helped me in many ways. WOULD DO DIFFERENT: Would have studied more, and been more serious about my classes.  I would have liked to have been more outgoing than I was, but my shyness was not "conquered" until I became several years older! COMMENTS: I appreciated North Dallas High when I spent my senior year in New Orleans. The standards were so much higher in Dallas. Can you believe that my senior term paper was on "Dance Bands" (perhaps a fitting subject given New Orleans music background) Everything in New Orleans was different. In New Orleans the big event was Mardi Gras, .. in Dallas I loved the State Fair. Even today, I prefer the fair and since my sister lives in Dallas, I have been able to attend.  I have also grown to enjoy Mardi Gras.

She married Bruce and the two became the parents of 3 boys.  Their 37 year old son and his wife have given them 2 precious little grand daughters. One of their 33 year old identical twins is married, while the other remains single. She and Bruce are very proud to say that all three of their boys have earned a Master of Business Administration degree.  Her classmates will recall that Shirley was a majorette and Shirley believes that experience had a tremendous influence on her maturity. It also helped in her 13 year career of teaching Aerobic Dancing for Jacki Sorensen. Her reflection of doing differently centered on being more friendly, selecting studies that would benefit life in the real world and study those courses with more determination. Shirley sends her thanks to all of the people who take their time to provide news of good old ND and her classmates.
