Pete Huff - Election Winner 6/15/2008

Former McKinney City Council member Pete Huff will return to the council in the at-large council seat after beating community leader Sherry Tucker David by 128 votes in Saturday’s runoff election. Huff won with 1,562 votes, (52.14 percent), to Tucker David’s 1,434 votes (47.86 percent). Early voting totals showed Huff leading, 1,113-800, which means Tucker David had an Election Day. Advantage of 634-449. Huff said he felt wonderful and the election has been a battle.

“I’m happy that the work I’ve been doing has been recognized, and I look forward continuing it on a citywide basis,” Huff said. He added he is looking forward to discussing the options for making the appointments to city boards and commissions a more open, public process and making the city more transparent as a whole. “We need to be transparent as much as we possibly can,” Huff said. Tucker David did not return two voicemails left on her cell phone, a text message left on her cell phone, a message left at her home answering machine, and an e-mail to both of her e-mail accounts to respond to the results.

Tucker David currently serves on the McKinney Arts Commission, which oversees grants to community based arts programs, is the co-founder of the McKinney based Cross Timbers Youth Orchestra and is a former executive board member of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. Huff just gave up the District 2 seat he had held for the past six years because his had exhausted the term limit in that seat. Huff will succeed Thad Helsley in the at-large seat. Huff and Tucker David finished one-two in the May 10 election, which also featured Marta Gore. None of the candidates received 50 percent of the vote, necessitating the runoff. Jerry and I moved to Wildomar in 1987 where we purchased a two acre parcle of land that seemed in the middle of nowhere at the time. However today it is quite different especially with the recent years population growth. Jerry loved tending to the 100 trees and rose gardens on the property. Also we raised a variety of farm animals over the years including chickens, goats, pigs, lambs and turkeys. We had four children and six grand children. He always had a twinkle in his eye for the grandchildren and loved to be around them. Jerry retired from Real Estate in October of 2006. We took a road trip in November 2006 for three weeks to visit with family and friends in Dallas and his old alma matter North Dallas High School. I know he loved all his friends form high school.

Grapevine, TX 76051

Janelle has 2 sons - one in Glen Rose and the other in Ft. Worth, and 3 grandchildren (2 girls and one boy). She retired in March 1999 from The Society of Petroleum Engineers where she was manager of Conference Programs. This involved an enormous amount of travel (half outside the U.S.) organizing conferences and exhibitions for the oil and gas industry worldwide. Janelle took retirement in March 1999 (actually just quit) and moved to Grapevine to be closer to her family. She is  presently managing an advisory firm for the meetings and exhibitions industry out of a home office as well as working for area convention and visitors bureaus. Janelle is greatly enjoying life outside of an airplane and hotel room and and not having to wonder how what is the language d'jour is each morning. She hasn't figured out how the hobby thing works yet, but hopes to have one someday. Janelle says she has only positive and inspirational feelings about NDHS. The most influential class (that she can define in financial / career terms) was the 2 years of typing. There was not much else available to women within confines of their expectations in the work world. The typing expertise got women in the door, they weren't "threatening" and it was up to them to make a go of it. She says that this is a fabulous website and opportunity to renew friendships. She is hoping our lives have calmed down enough that we can pick-up where we left off with our friendships in 1955. We've all changed but she thinks the core of what made us friends still exists and our maturity will open up our appreciation and connection with those we didn't "dig" at that particular time in our lives.

Huff, Pete   07/18/2007 -  McKinney Tx city councilman - Pete Huff: He stands his ground on council    --- 07:52 PM CDT on Tuesday, April 12, 2005

In his first term, Pete Huff helped McKinney update its comprehensive plan. We hope voters give him a second term on the City Council so he can help the city stick to its vision for the future. Mr. Huff, 69, retired after selling his engineering and manufacturing company, has an undergraduate degree from Rice University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He drew fire in his first term for suggesting that city temporarily stop rezoning agricultural land to make room for new residential developments, and, it seems, as a result, he has drawn a strong opponent in his bid for re-election.

Logan, William H

whlogan@bellsouth.net

Well..... here goes..... I left Dallas as soon as I could..... joined the Navy and liked it so much I stayed for 26 years! Got a Warrant in 1967 and made CWO4 before I retired. Did two tours in Vietnam on the ground or in the rivers with the Seal teams as an Intelligence Collector...... lost various, but minor, body parts and lots of friends.  In 1973 the Navy decided that 2 ground tours merited something, so they sent me to the Navy Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. to get a BS..... I chose Math, mostly to show up Nell Lawler, who said I would never learn it....... I did.  Magna Cum in 1975..... then off to play, one more sea tour and one more shore tour and retired in 1979. In '79 I went to University of CA @ Santa Cruz working on a Ph.D. in Math, but got a divorce instead.... went to work in computers and stayed doing that silly stuff till 1996...... arthritis has got me now.... I was a Navy research diver for many years..... that and riding submarines round....and did lots of work in High Pressure Gas diving, which wipes out the large joints in a body..... Navy or the VA won't admit it, but it do..... Well...... by now its 1996 and I puttered about for a year or so in Agricultural statistics in Ca.... and just hung it all up in 1997 and came to South Carolina to accept a teaching job in a Tech College...... then last Oct, we (3rd wife by now) and I decided we liked North Carolina better and in particular the mountains.... so here we are.... in Hendersonville .. all we do now is photography.... that and keep a Cocker Spaniel! Or vice versa! Run a small business doing fine art black and white work...... we have a WEB page up at http://loganphotographics.com..... look in...... I know about the spelling errors and am waiting for the next version of NetFusion to fix it all up and post some new photos.... Along the way, I have 4 wonderful kids... 1 girl and 3 boys...... Kimberly is married to a professor of physical chemistry and University of Miami and they have one daughter, Kristopher, #1 son, lives in LA and is a movie actor....Spike, #2 son,  is a Navy Chief Petty Officer in Electronics (as was I) and rides submarines (as did I) out of Pearl Harbor...... Kendall, #3 son,  lives in Budapest where he runs a translation and interpretation business in German, Hungarian and almost any other language you can imagine and is married to a half Hungarian/half Russian girl and they have one daughter.... Considering the miles and the number of times I've been rode hard and put away wet, I do pretty good. Walk with a cane and still get about well enough to teach 200 girls photography at a Camp here in Hendersonville...... now, there's a real job! I am back in graduate school, working on a Master's in Liberal Arts.... mainly in photography and Shakespeare! Go figure! Much to Miss Epperson's prognostication, I did learn to read and to write, too.   To see an example of Bill's writings, go to The Badger And The Archer

05/24/02 - Submitted by - Margaret Kelley Maple Gilliland.  College info: M.A. University of Texas, Ph.D. University of Texas. Family info: Lisa Linda Maples Dean, 20 year air force personnel.  Cynthia Lynn Maple Hardaway, RN. Eight grandchildren. Job info: William R. Maples, Born, Dallas, Texas, August 7, 1937, died February 27, 1997. Bill was an internationally known University of Florida forensic anthropologist.  He graduated from North Dallas High School, January 1955.  He attended the University of Texas (Austin) and received his Ph.D. in Anthropology where the late Thomas W. McKern, a well-known forensic anthropologist, supervised his graduate training. Before coming to the University of Florida, Bill Maples managed biomedical research centers in East Africa for several years and taught at Western Michigan University.  Bill was a distinguished service professor of the C.A. Pound Human Identification Laboratory at the University of Florida and author of the renowned book "Dead Men Do Tell Tales," Doubleday, New York, 1994, co-authored by Michael Browning.  Currently the book has been printed in the United Kingdom, and is available in German, Japanese, Spanish and the rights have recently been sold for a Turkish edition.  Certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology, Bill was internationally recognized for his work in physical anthropology, particularly forensic human identification and trauma analysis.  Bill helped law enforcement officers determine the identify and trauma of unidentified crime and accident victims by studying their skeletal remains.  During his career at the University he assisted in over one thousand such cases.  In June, 1996, Bill, along with his wife, Margaret, and his graduate students worked with medical examiners to identify fragmented remains of children who were victims in a ValuJet plane crash in South Florida.  As a contracted consultant with the Dade County Medical Examiner's Office, Bill helped identify the remains of 11 of the 12 child victims, six of whom were younger than 12 years. He was involved in numerous high-profile cases involving historic people.  He participated in the 1991 exhumation and examination of President Zachary Taylor, helped identify the remains of Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in Peru in 1984, and did an analysis using the remains of Joseph Merrick, "The Elephant Man" in 1990.  In 1992, Bill Maples led a team of scientists to help identify the remains of the last Russian monarch, Czar Nicholas II, and his family and retainers, brutally slain by revolutionaries in 1918.  In 1991, he was a member of the exhumation autopsy studying the remains of Medgar Evers, the slain civil rights worker. When Bill spoke in 1996 at a luncheon for the Florida Museum of Natural History Association, he said it was his destiny to study skeletal remains to find out who they are, how they died, and who was responsible for their demise.  Bill told the group that as a young boy he once discussed with a friend opening a tomb to see if a famous person really was buried in it.  He saw his first autopsy photos in elementary school.   "The field of forensic anthropology selected me," he said. Bill joined the faculty at the University of Florida in 1968 as an assistant professor of anthropology.  In 1978, he became a full professor and was named curator of Physical Anthropology at the Florida Museum of Natural History (formerly the Florida State Museum).  Bill was also chairman of the Department of Social Sciences from 1973 to 1980. When Bill opened the C.A. Pound Human Identification Laboratory at UF in 1986, it was considered among the most innovative forensic laboratories in the country.  Bill received calls for help in solving crimes from all over the globe.  It remains one of the most active laboratories of its kind. Bill was a member of the New York State Police Forensic Sciences Unit and, beginning in 1986, was a consultant to the United States Army Central Identification Laboratory reviewing recommended identifications of MIA remains.  He was a consultant to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in the identification of the victims in Congressman Mickey Leland's Ethiopian plane crash in 1989. He received a Distinguished Faculty Award at the 1996 University of Florida Blue Key homecoming banquet.  He is listed in the 1996 " Who's Who in America."  He was recognized on the seventy-fifth anniversary of North Dallas High School founding as a Distinguished Alumnus.  Bill considered this was on his greatest honor for without the excellent education he received at NDHS, he would not have had the opportunity to further his education.  The City of Lima, Peru awarded Bill a certificate of honor in 1985 for his research on the remains of its founder, and the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency gave him its Distinguished Service Award for Criminal Justice in 1992.  The Florida Association of Medical Examiners in October of 1996 at their annual meeting recognized him for his excellence in forensic anthropology. He was a Diplomat (and former president) of the American Board of Forensic Anthropology, the national certification board for forensic anthropologists.  Bill was a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, which gave him an award of merit in 1984.  He was elected to a number of offices, including Academy vice-president in 1986-1987.  He also served seven years as a member of the Board of Directors and served as vice chairman, and was a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Forensic Sciences Foundation.  The Forensic Anthropology Section of the Academy gave him the T. Dale Stewart Award in 1996.  He lectured widely in this country and abroad, including the People's Republic of China, Peru, Panama, and Russia. In 2000, The William R. Maples Center for Forensic Medicine was dedicated at the University of Florida. He was married to Margaret Kelley Maples, a 1956, NDHS graduate, for thirty-eight years and they have two daughters, Lisa Linda Maples Dean and Cynthia Lynn Maples Hardaway of Panama City, Florida and eight grandchildren, Nicole, Kara, Kristopher, Mallory, Dylan, Billy, David and Margo all of Panama City, Florida

"After North Dallas, I attended Abilene Christian College for two years, but graduated with a Bachelor's of Music degree with a major in voice from North Texas State University. Later, after moving to Washington, DC, received my Master of Music degree in conducting from Catholic University of America. I moved to the DC area in 1963 where until 1967 I was a member of The United States Army Band and Chorus.  While in the Army, I began a part-time position in 1966 as Director of Music for the Fairfax (VA) Presbyterian Church which later became a full-time position and for the last 10 years I also served as the church's Director of Administration. After 34 years I retired April 2000. For a period of almost 20 years I was Music Director and Conductor of the Fairfax Choral Society a large community chorus and chorale. I have been very active in music in the Washington DC area and this has provided the bulk of my avocational activities, although flying (I'm a private pilot), golfing and computers have been interests of mine, as well.  My spouse, Eleanor, was born and raised in Petersburg, VA, and received her undergraduate degree from Mary Baldwin College (Staunton, VA) and her Masters from Univ. of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She taught high school for 30+ years until her retirement about 3 years ago. Since then she is working in a surgeon's office. She joined my choir at the church in 1972, and we were married in December 1973. I have two children by a former marriage, Larry (42) and Lisa (39). After 60 years of pain and confusion I finally decided to deal with the fact that I am and have always been a trans-gendered person, and in 1999 transitioned to become a woman, changing my name to Robin. I am finally whole and at peace with the real me

Patsy is living in Shady Shores, about 8 miles south of Denton. She retired after 25 years of personnel and Human Resources with Moore Business Forms, including a 2 year stint in Chicago at Moore's national headquarters. She has 4 grown children, 8 grandchildren. She has been teaching piano lessons for the last 2 years. Patsy enjoys going to the Bulldog breakfasts every January and July, where she gets to see a lot of the NDHS "kids." She keeps up with Gary Pursel and Kelly Parks through e-mail. Patsy says that they are trying to get a lot more people to come to the breakfast in July - and that everyone should get their calendar and mark the last Saturday Patsy was in Tulsa in Jan 01 and talked to Bobby Wood. It looks like the clan is gathering!

07/02/2006 - (From Patsy) my husband, Walter Gilchrist , died on June 11th. It was congestive heart failure. He was in the hospital, but was getting better. We were all looking forward to his coming home and getting into the rehab program. He was buried on the 16th at Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas. It was a military funeral. Walter was also an Eagle Scout. My grandson, who is also an Eagle Scout, played taps. It was a very emotional time for all of us. We then had a beautiful memorial service for him at the Lake Cities United Methodist Church. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1951, served in the army, taught bio-chemistry at TWU and in 1992 he retired from Univ. of Texas Southwestern Medical School dept of Microbiology. You might still be able to see the obituary in the Dallas Morning News. I think it was on the 14th. His daughter also sent one in (she doesn't acknowledge my existence). You will be able to tell the difference. Please keep us in your prayers. The main thing is.. I loved him and he loved me back. Love to all Patricia (Murphy) Nelson Gilchrist

( Overbeck) Coleman, Mary Kay

marykaycoleman@houston.rr.com

Mary Kay met her husband, Don Coleman, while teaching at Memorial High School in Houston. He was basketball coach and she was teaching history and government. Don had some great teams and retired in 1992 as the 8th winningest coach in the nation.  She and Don  have four children and seven grand children. Three sons live in Houston and are each is married and has his own business. Their daughter and her husband live in Austin where both are attorneys. After graduation from SMU in 1959, Mary Kay  became a high school teacher (what else did one do then?).  She spent 25 years in public education, mostly in Houston. Ten years spent as a classroom teacher and 15 years as the public relations director for the school district. In 1986 she was offered an opportunity to set up public relations program for a small mutual fund company where she worked until the company sold to John Hancock in 1994. Then went to AIM Funds where she is the First VP for Marketing Communications. AIM is the 8th largest mutual fund company in the nation today. AIM's website is at www.aimfunds.com. Mary Kay is thinking about retirement since her husband enjoys it so much, but she is a bit fearful of it as she has worked steadily for 41 years and seems to attach her identity to her work -- not good, she  knows. Her favorite past time is finding a quiet place to read a book. She also enjoys traveling, gardening, tennis, watching the grandchildren's activities, Bible study, meeting friends for dinner. Mary Kay says that the depth and breadth of education she received at NDHS has been the underpinning for any success she has achieved in other aspects of her life. While she has enjoyed every phase of life thus far, few fill her with the nostalgia as the golden high school years.
